There are several events taking place throughout New Braunfels to celebrate New Year's Eve on Dec. 31. Here are five events to help kick off 2018.

New Year’s Eve Masquerade Ball
Guests are encouraged to wear ball gowns, tuxedos or boots and jeans complete with masquerade masks. A cocktail hour will kick off festivities at 7:30 p.m., followed by a full European dinner complete with wine and dessert. Die Fledermaus Act II, a comical musical, will be performed, accompanied by a 25-piece orchestra and 24-member chorus. Broadway singers and dancers will offer a full-variety show leading up to a champagne toast just before midnight. Featured performers include Mark Covey, Elizabeth Herlitz-Cortes, Jennifer Quintero and Keeley Hooker. Children are welcome, and guests up to the age of 12 will receive a $40 refund the night of the performance. $85. New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center, 375 S. Conway’s 4th Annual New Year’s Eve Bash
This 21-and-older event features live music, a DJ and a balloon drop to ring in the new year. The live music lineup includes Shane Smith & the Saints, John Baumann and Zach Nytomt. New Year’s Eve Bash with Jay Bleu and The Statesboro Revue
Folk/rock/soul act Jay Bleu opens for rootsy Southern rock 'n' roll band The Statesboro Revue. 8:30 p.m. to midnight. A free champagne toast takes place at 11 p.m. $12 at the door. No presale tickets are available. Tavern in the Gruene, 830 Gruene Road. 830-608-0438. www.taverninthegruene.com

New Year’s Eve with Soul Sessions and the Clever Name Band

Tejano New Year’s Eve Celebration
TexMex Productions presents the Tejano New Year’s Eve Celebration featuring live music from Grupo Calibre and Tejas Bound. Champagne and party favors are available while supplies last. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance at www.tejanonye.com or $15 at the door. Children age 12 and younger get in free. Still in need of sponsors, New Braunfels venue to host prestigious regional spelling bee in March

The Brauntex Performing Arts Theatre in New Braunfels will host the regional spelling bee March 27. The event will see participation from students in Comal and 17 adjacent counties, according to a press release from the Brauntex Theatre.
