Leander City Council on Aug. 7 approved a $347,713.50 change order to its contract with Lone Star Paving Company for the 2025 roadway rehabilitation project.

The adjustment added a section of northbound Ronald Reagan Boulevard and brought the contract’s total from $1,411,219.55 to $1,758,933.05, according to agenda documents.

The gist

The city awarded the contract to Lone Star Paving Company June 5. It provided for 8.8 lane miles of roadway improvements, and the city selected roads based on a pavement condition assessment performed in 2020 and 2021, according to the documents.

The city is adding a northbound section of Ronald Reagan Boulevard that sits north of CR 264 and runs close to the South Fork San Gabriel River, because the stretch of road shows large “failure spots,” according to the documents.

What else?

The overall condition of Ronald Reagan Boulevard has deteriorated, and the road now requires frequent patches, according to the documents. Additionally, the failure spots along the road impact ride quality and safety.

According to previous reporting, in addition to the newly added section of Ronald Reagan Boulevard, the project includes:
  • 1.3 lane miles on Hero Way West
  • 1.8 lane miles on Horizon Park Boulevard
  • 0.8 lane miles on Osage Drive
  • 1.9 lane miles on Leander Drive
  • 1.5 lane miles on streets in the Overlook Estates subdivision
  • 1.5 lane miles on streets in the Mason Ranch subdivision
