Design for a traffic signal at the intersection of Bar W Boulevard and Ronald Reagan Boulevard in Leander is nearing completion.

As of July 19, the design reached 90% completion and the full design is expected to be completed and submitted to the city of Leander for review by the end of July, Williamson County Engineer Adam Boatright said in an email to Community Impact.

How it started

Since the August 2023 opening of Bar W Elementary, this intersection has experienced a significant increase in traffic. Because of this, Williamson County, Liberty Hill ISD and the city of Leander have banded together to address the issue.

The three entities have been planning a traffic signal at this intersection, which is intended to enhance safety and mobility in the area, since last year in September.

The update

Boatright said the project is set to be bid this fall, and construction is expected to begin by the end of the year. He said county officials are anticipating the traffic signal to be fully operational by summer 2025.

The construction timeline, however, is contingent on supply chain challenges and the availability of materials. Boatright said the county is working to gather materials for the light by using existing inventory and pre-ordering as much as possible.
