McDonald submitted his letter of resignation July 18 to run for Williamson County Commissioners Court Precinct 2, which is currently held by Cynthia Long.
What they’re saying
Mayor Christine DeLisle told Community Impact McDonald’s presence on council will be missed, calling his resignation “a loss to council.”
She said the current council is relatively new, and McDonald provided knowledge that was helpful in city operations.
“Over the last year or two, he’s been a phenomenal help with some of our very difficult projects.”
How we got here
McDonald won re-election to Leander City Council in May. He was first elected to the position in 2022, according to the city’s website.
In a July 26 news release, McDonald's campaign announced Leander City Council member Stephen Chang had endorsed him.
What else?
In replacing McDonald, Leander voters will need to vote at locations that align with the county in which they reside, and Election Day for both Williamson and Travis County will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to Leander’s website.
The first day of early voting will be Oct. 20, and the last day will be Oct. 31.
Williamson County voting locations are available on the county’s website, and more information on voting in Travis County is available on the county’s website.
