Liberty Hill City Council authorized a preliminary engineering report on needed improvements and associated costs for connections with Georgetown’s water system for long-term water sharing on Jan. 8.

The preliminary report will examine two spots where Georgetown’s and Liberty Hill’s water systems are linked: the first at the intersection of US 183 and Hwy. 29, and the second along CR 277 close to Liberty Hill High School, Deputy City Manager Mike Etienne said.
The approved $25,000 task order directs Pape Dawson Engineers to produce preliminary designs and cost estimates for the needed improvements to each connection point for a long-term agreement, Etienne said.
Moving forward
Etienne said the connection on US 183 does not need immediate work in order for an agreement to take effect.
“The connection is already there, so all we have to do is execute the contract with Georgetown, and Georgetown will turn on the water, and the water will flow,” he said, noting the city expects to complete negotiations with Georgetown for a short-term water deal by the end of January.
Upgrades to the connections will need to be made to maintain long-term water agreements between the cities.
Etienne said he hopes the short-term agreement with Georgetown will last until June 30, by which time he said he hopes to have completed negotiations with Round Rock.
The preliminary engineering report was passed with a deadline of April 15.
