Devine Lake Park is set to get a new attraction after Leander City Council approved a $50K contract with Ion Art for the installation of an art sculpture at its Oct. 17 meeting.

The sculpture, called Iron Frog, is expected to be installed at the park by early 2025, according to agenda documents.

The city solicited projects for an art piece embodying the theme “Magical Creatures of Devine Lake,” according to agenda documents.

The offer from Ion Art showed a large lounging frog, resting on its back with one leg crossed over the other and resting its head on its hands. The dimensions show the proposed sculpture is 4 feet, 8 inches tall and 12 feet long.

Ion Art originally submitted a concept that satisfied a requirement from the city’s solicitation that the sculpture be able to withstand the various extremes of Texas weather. However, the company could not guarantee that level of durability with the design that was ultimately selected, because there was no clear coat available that can provide that kind of durability while also allowing adults and children to climb on the art.
