Cedar Park City Council unanimously approved new playground improvements and installments for Brushy Creek Lake Park at its Aug. 10 meeting.

In a nutshell

The approved $442,949 purchase will secure the replacement and expansion of existing playground equipment at Brushy Creek Lake Park, Parks Project Coordinator John Smyth said.

Located at 3300 Brushy Creek Road, Cedar Park, the park is situated around a 38-acre lake and features a playground, fishing pier and wildlife viewing area. The existing playground was installed in 2004.

  • Improvements include removing the existing playground and installing a new playground geared for children ages 2-5, according to city documents. Additionally, the city will add separate playground for kids ages 5-12.
  • Other upgrades include rubber surfacing, a swing set and additional seating. Smyth said in the future, there are plans to add decorative fencing and a shade.
  • Playground equipment supplier Fun Abounds will install the new equipment. The company specializes in playgrounds, site amenities, fitness stations, shade and is the area distributor of Burke playground equipment, which is used at eight other locations.
Next steps

Smyth said it will take roughly 12-16 weeks for equipment delivery. Once the equipment arrives, construction will begin and is anticipated to take roughly 90 days.

The new improvements should be completed by March or April, Smyth said.
