Liberty Hill ISD school board member Kathy Major announced her resignation following more than seven years of service on district’s board of trustees.

Major, who was re-elected to her third term in 2024, said she is stepping down to provide full-time care for her husband after nearly 41 years of marriage, according to LHISD information.

In their own words

“This was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make,” Major said in a news release. “But I’ve always lived by faith, family and friends. To keep a promise made decades ago, I must now prioritize my family. It doesn’t mean my love for this district or our kids has changed. I will always be cheering Liberty Hill on.”

The background

Major has served on Place 4 of the LHISD board of trustees since May 2018 and became vice president in November 2020.

She began teaching in Liberty Hill ISD in 1991 and served as the principal of Liberty Hill Intermediate School as well as in other district leadership roles.

What they’re saying

“Kathy Major has spent more than three decades pouring into Liberty Hill ISD,” said interim Superintendent Travis Motal in a news release. “From the classroom to the principal’s office to the boardroom, she has consistently centered her decisions around what’s best for kids. Her legacy is one of heart, integrity and unwavering commitment. She will be deeply missed.”

The LHISD board may appoint someone to fill Major’s position until the next board election or call a special election, according to the district’s board policy.

The board has not yet decided how to proceed, said Rachel Acosta, LHISD director of communications and community engagement.
