LISD’s Early College High School currently operates at the ACC San Gabriel Campus, located at 449 San Gabriel Campus Drive, Leander.
The recently approved permit allows LISD to add up to 18 temporary portable buildings to the site for the next five years, according to city documents.
According to previous Community Impact reporting, the move to the portables is due to ACC San Gabriel’s enrollment more than doubling since ECHS opened there in 2022.
Another detail
Executive Director of Development Services Robin Griffin said ACC has future plans for a permanent building to be constructed on the property.
The ECHS will move into the portables in August for the 2024-25 school year, and will use them while construction is underway, officials said. Once construction wraps up, the school will be able to move into the new building.
The action taken
Council voted to approve the special-use permit with the condition that city staff verify with the developers of Northline—a nearby under-construction retail and residential development—whether or not screening the portables, which is a part of the developmental process, is necessary.
