Over 30 students will walk the stage in the first graduation ceremony of the school year for Liberty Hill Success Academy.

Marking a milestone

Liberty Hill Success Academy will host a graduation ceremony for its first cohort of graduates this school year in the Liberty Hill High School auditorium at 11 a.m. Dec. 5. The ceremony will include remarks by Liberty Hill Success Academy Director Jonathan Bever and student graduates, said Rachel Acosta, director of communications and community engagement.

Following the Dec. 5 ceremony, 40 new students will enter the program, Acosta said. Over 60 students graduated from the program last school year, according to the district's website.

The approach

The academy opened for the 2022-23 school year to provide an alternative education option to students struggling to succeed in a traditional high school environment, according to the district's website. The school of choice is available to 11th and 12th grade students who are at risk of dropping out or needing to graduate high school early, Acosta said.

The self-paced online curriculum allows students to accelerate their coursework, recover credits and graduate early. Students may complete school work through the summer and personalize their schedule during the school year, she said.

“It helps them to be able to solidly focus on getting the programs done in a way that helps them retain the information that they need and knock it out like a college course would allow you to do,” Acosta said.

The district seeks out eligible students for the program while interested students may apply at any time, Acosta said. After filling out an application, staff will meet with students and their parents to determine if the academy is the right fit, she said.
