After 12 years of service, Mouton's Southern Bistro in Leander officially closed on May 20, a restaurant employee said.

The owner made an announcement via Facebook on May 20. The post stated the closing of the Leander location was due to “rising food and labor costs, coupled with stagnating sales,” which made it “increasingly difficult to continue operations.”

The Cedar Park location will remain open, per the Facebook post.

“While we are closing this chapter, we are excited to invite you to our other location in Cedar Park,” the May 20 Facebook post stated. “We would love for you to continue enjoying the delicious Southern cuisine and warm hospitality that you have come to expect from us.”

Many of the items on the restaurant’s Creole-Cajun menu are New Orleans-themed and influenced by owner Ben Mouton’s family members. A few include chicken fried steak, shrimp po’boys, pasta, smoked meatloaf, shrimp and grits, shrimp scampi and corned beef hash.
