The setup
The road to this small-town stay is rustic. Cows, horses and hay bales greet drivers on the street before they turn onto a gravel path with a large yellow house at the end.
Abby, the resident dog, may welcome visitors first, followed shortly by the bed and breakfast’s owner and hostess Leslie Freeman. A snack, iced tea and lemonade are prepared upon arrival—or a pot of hot coffee if the weather’s cooler, Freeman said.
“That’s the key to a [bed and breakfast]—to make everyone at home,” she said.
A closer look
Leslie’s has three different rooms available throughout the year, all color-coded and decorated with themes. A king-sized bed, TV, private bathroom and a porch with rocking chairs are found in every room.
Nightly rates range from $60-$75, depending on if guests select the continental or full breakfast. While Freeman doesn’t provide a menu, she does accommodate to food allergies. A few go-to meals created in the kitchen are:
- Banana pancakes with bananas foster syrup
- Ham and cheese or buttermilk pecan waffles
- Lemon ricotta pancakes
- Cream cheese and jelly french toast sandwiches
- Scrambled eggs, omelets and soufflés
- Grapefruit creme brulee
“If they need something, that’s part of my job,” Freeman said.
How it happened
Freeman opened the bed and breakfast in 2022 to keep herself busy after retiring, she said. She moved to Liberty Hill from Flower Mound to be close to family.
Her love for bed and breakfasts came from years of spending weekends at different ones across Texas with her sister, brother-in-law and then-husband, she said.
“There'd be at least one time during that weekend that we would all four be in tears laughing so hard about something,” Freeman said.
Now, she enjoys recreating those experiences for her own guests, and loves moments when laughter can be heard through the walls, she said.
“Don’t be scared to step out of your comfort zone, and that’s what I’ve done here,” Freeman said.
