A 17-year-old Vista Ridge High School student died Dec. 3 in a car accident near his high school.

Leander ISD issued a letter for the Vista Ridge High School and Rouse High School community regarding Myles Hutcheson’s death.

“Children often react strongly to a traumatic event such as this, even if they did not know the student well,” states the letter. “Those who are acquainted with the family may be experiencing additional stress.”

Families with students experiencing difficulty coping with the loss may contact the Vista Ridge High School counseling office at 512-570-1824.

Cedar Park police officers responded to the crash in the 1900 block of Brushy Creek Road around 5:45 a.m., according to a statement from the Cedar Park Police Department. No other cars were involved in the accident.

Eastbound lanes on Brushy Creek were shut down from Gupton Way to Vista Ridge Boulevard until around 4:45 p.m. to investigate the accident, according to tweets by the police department.

Eastbound lanes from Gupton to Vista Ridge are expected to close again for around 2-3 hours at 9 a.m. Dec. 4 and drivers are asked to avoid the area, according to the department.
