Three Austin-area cities named in top 100 safest American cities report

Three Austin-area cities have been named as three of the top 100 safest cities in America to live.

The National Council for Home Safety and Security announced the results of the Top 100 Safest Cities in America Report for 2017 on July 31, which listed Georgetown in 67th place, Cedar Park in 85th place and Pflugerville in 98th place. The study used data from FBI crime reports and local crime reports to come up with the rankings.

The National Council for Home Safety and Security is a trade association composed of home security professionals across the U.S.

Georgetown had 140 violent crimes per 100,000 people and 1,237 property crimes per 100,00. Per 100,000 people, Cedar Park had 163 violent crimes and 1,373 property crimes. Pflugerville had 135 violent crimes per 100,000 people and 1,478 property crimes per 100,000.

The study included 764 cities that met specific standards.
