Drivers traveling around Leander may want to avoid the area around North Bagdad Road between San Gabriel Parkway and Old FM 2243 this weekend.

North Bagdad will be closed between Halsey Drive and Middle Brook Drive for box culverts installations, according to the city of Leander.

The city will close North Bagdad at 7 p.m. this evening and plans to reopen the roadway on Sunday evening. Residents needed to travel in the area will need to take detours, which are shown on the attached map.

The roadway closure is the first step in the Bagdad widening project, according to the city. Construction crews will begin the process of widening portions of Bagdad from two to five lanes, which includes a center turn lane, between Old FM 2243 and Collaborative Way. The $13 million widening project is expected to be complete around October 2018.
