The Williamson County and Cities Health District, which provides health services in the county, is hoping to open a future public health center in Leander.
The health district has four clinics in Cedar Park, Georgetown, Round Rock and Taylor. The centers provide services such as screenings and treatments, wellness exams, physicals, vaccinations and flu shots, but they do not provide routine medical or emergency care.
According to the WCCHD 2017-19 Strategic Plan, the health district plans to establish the center in Leander by 2019. WCCHD Executive Director John Teel said a center in Leander could serve citizens along the Toll 183A corridor all the way up to the Florence area. He said the project does not yet have funds, but he is looking for partnership opportunities on the center.
He said a group of nonprofits and faith-based organizations known as the East Williamson County Coalition has worked together over the past few years to raise funds to construct a multipurpose center called the Life Park Center in Taylor. Teel said he would like to see a similar community-driven effort happen in Leander in order to create a multipurpose center on the west side of the county.
“There’s nothing better that could happen, in my opinion...for providing public health services,” he said.
