Incumbent Cedar Park City Council members Jon Lux and Lyle Grimes will step down from their positions on the Bushy Creek Regional Utility Authority board of directors on Thursday, according to BCRUA General Manager Tom Gallier. The city has not yet decided who will replace Lux and Grimes for BCRUA's two board seats dedicated to Cedar Park council members, and there is no discussion on the matter scheduled for Thursday's council meeting. "There is no such item on the agenda at this time," Cedar Park spokesperson Jennie Huerta said. "It will be on a future agenda, date to be determined." The cities of Cedar Park, Leander and Round Rock each appoint two individuals to serve on the BCRUA board of directors, Gallier said. Out of those two members, one seat is a voting council director, chosen from the Cedar Park, Leander and Round Rock councils. The other seat is a non-voting citizen director. Up until this point, Gallier said, the citizen director position has always been assigned to another elected official, but the city council could put anyone in that position. BCRUA board directors then rotate to serve as board president, vice president and secretary. Lux, who is currently BCRUA president, said that whoever replaces him on the board will assume the role as president until July. Board positions rotate cities every year, Gallier said. Currently, Cedar Park holds the presidential position, Kris Whitfield from Round Rock is vice president and Ron Abruzzese from Leander is the secretary. Gallier said the cities decided the rotation was the most “fair and equitable way” to determine BCRUA’s board leadership. In July, Whitfield will become the BCRUA’s president, Abruzzese will become vice president and one of Cedar Park’s council-appointed director will become the secretary. The BCRUA is currently working on a water facility expansion project with Austin-based Walker Partners LLC. The regional water system would deliver water to Cedar Park, Leander and Round Rock for the next 50 years.
