The Texas Stars Foundation, the official charity of the Texas Stars hockey team based in Cedar Park, raised nearly $36,000 for charity and generated nearly 700 meals for the local community through events in October.
The Texas Stars, the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, announced the numbers in a press release Monday.
The foundation held its annual H-E-B Food Drive Night on Oct. 20 in a game against the San Antonio Rampage. Fans donated nonperishable food items throughout the day, and more than 800 pounds of food was collected that provided 671 meals for the Central Texas Food Bank, according to the release.
Stars players and staff visited Mel’s Lone Star Lanes in Georgetown on Oct. 25 for the annual Bowling with the Stars event, which raised money through a silent and live auction. The event raised $15,870 in total, according to the release.
On Oct. 27 the Stars hosted a "Star Wars" night during the game versus the San Diego Gulls. Stars players wore specialty "Star Wars" jerseys, which fans were able to bid on through a silent auction. The foundation raised $20,055, which will benefit the Leander ISD Educational Excellence Foundation, according to the release.
Due to fans, players, players’ families and staff, the Texas Stars Foundation has distributed over $900,000 in cash donations and gifts in-kind to more than 650 different local nonprofits during the 2010-17 seasons.
