At its monthly meeting Monday the Austin Community College District board of trustees approved the designation of names and locations for five additional streets at its San Gabriel campus in Leander. The 100-acre, $60 million San Gabriel campus is scheduled to open in 2018. Its development is funded by a 2014 voter-approved bond. The approved street names are ACCelerator Avenue, Equity Way, Education Lane, Riverbat Drive and Wellstone Bend. The riverbat is ACC's mascot. The community college has gained possession of a historic wellstone near the San Gabriel campus site that once served as a marker for travelers through the town. The 30-foot-by-30-foot rock will be incorporated into the campus landscaping. Wellstone Bend is named in honor of this guidepost, which Molly Beth Malcolm, ACC vice president of community engagement and public affairs, said she hopes continues to serve a similar purpose for San Gabriel students.
