Trustees on the Leander ISD board voted to maintain the current tax rate during their meeting Aug. 17, which is the seventh year in a row to retain its current rate.
The fiscal year 2017-18 tax rate was set at $1.51187 per $100 valuation, which has been the district's tax rate since fiscal year 2011-12. Board Vice President Will Streit said he appreciates “how far the school district has come in the past few years.
“I do think that we have entered a period where we will begin to lower the tax rate, which I think is fantastic since we were looking at the opposite situation a few years ago,” Streit said.
Along with the tax rate, trustees approved a general operating budget of $326,278,032, which is about $8,333 per student, according to the school demographer’s report.
Superintendent Dan Troxell thanked staff for their work to develop this year’s budget.
“Developing a budget at any time is difficult, particularly in these uncertain times with a regular session, special session,” Troxell said.
No members of the public spoke during the public hearing held for the budget.
