In light of recent reports of student deaths in Leander ISD, members of the community are invited to attend an event April 17 to raise awareness about mental health advice and area resources that seek to prevent teen suicide.

Supporting our Teens in Today’s Society program will start at 6:30 p.m. April 17 at Cedar Park High School Performing Arts Center, 2150 Cypress Creek Road in Cedar Park. The event is hosted by Leander ISD’s counseling services.

Parents of LISD student are invited and students can also attend.

"Mental health concerns impact communities nationwide, and unfortunately, our students are not immune," wrote Superintendent Dan Troxell in a district-wide letter. "The safety and well-being of students are always our highest priorities, and we continue to support those dealing with mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety and suicide ideation."

Topics covered in the presentation will include:

  • Dealing with stress and maintaining balance with school and outside activities

  • Information regarding how LISD responds to reports of bullying

  • Common adolescent mental health concerns and illnesses

  • Risk factors for suicide

  • Assistance available in the LISD community and how to access help

  • Amare Outreach: A Leander High School student-led organization of teens helping teens


Presenters from the school district will include Director of Counseling Services Steve Clark, Senior Director of Student Support Services Brandon Evans and campus-based school counselors. Family Services Team social workers, Chemical Abuse Prevention Program counselors and representatives from Bluebonnet Trails Community Services also will speak.
