Families with incoming kindergartners to Leander ISD will be able to register Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
Registration also is open to children who qualify for the district’s free pre-kindergarten program and will be divided among the elementary campuses. Registration can be completed at any of the elementary schools regardless of where the student is zoned.
Any child who will be five years old on or before Sept. 1, meets immunization requirements and lives in Leander ISD district is eligible to attend the district’s full-day kindergarten program.
For the district’s free, half-day pre-kindergarten program, children must be four years old on or before Sept. 1, meet immunization requirements, live in Leander ISD and meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Be unable to speak and comprehend English
- Is homeless
- Has a parent or official guardian who is an active-duty member of the armed forces of the United States or who was injured or killed while serving on active duty
- Has been in the conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services
- Is eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price lunch program due to limited family income

Parents of students who will attend LISD’s newest campus, Akin Elementary, may register at any campus; however, they will have the opportunity to meet the principal and other staff members if they register at Parkside Elementary School on Thursday.
Enrollment forms are available online for parents to download and complete at home. Paper copies also will be available at each LISD elementary campus during registration for families who do not have access to a computer.
When registering, families also are expected to bring the child’s birth certificate, social security card, immunization records, a photo ID of the parent or guardian and proof of residency such as a water bill.
If parents are unable to attend registration Wednesday or Thursday, they can still register their child by contacting their respective elementary school before Aug. 1, according to the district.
