The Leander Independent School District launched an online feedback forum Friday to seek comment and questions for bond advisory committees to help address growth throughout the district.
According to demographic data, the school district has grown by more than 5,000 students and is projected to grow by another 6,000 in the next five years. The district’s board of trustees formed a bond advisory steering committee in January to develop a three- to five-year facility plan, which is expected to include three elementary schools and one middle school.
The steering committee formed subcommittees in February that have been meeting for the last four months and are now seeking public comment on district wants and needs. Submissions can be sent to LISD until May 5.
The forum touches on five interest areas that the subcommittees are reviewing—elementary needs, middle school needs, high school needs, technology needs and ancillary needs, which include athletic, science, arts and other support facilities.
Jimmy Disler, the district’s chief facilities and operations officer, said he expects the steering committee to meet in May to review results from the different subcommittees. As of the current projected timeline, the board of trustees would hear a presentation in June in preparation for a potential bond election in November.
Superintendent Dan Troxell said all members of the public—students, parents, staff and community members—are invited to submit comments, questions, suggestions, concerns and compliments within the five interest areas.
“All submissions will receive a thank you to notify that they’ve been received,” Troxell said.
All submissions will be reviewed but may not include a personalized response, he added.
The forum is hosted by the district’s Let’s Talk! program and can be accessed from the district’s homepage at
