The Leander ISD board of trustees approved a 2017-18 school year calendar during a workshop meeting Feb. 2 that will have a few changes compared to the current year.
Several calendar variations were previously presented to the board at a Jan. 19 meeting. Trustees also received a presentation containing results from a survey given to district principals about possible calendar changes.
The board asked LISD administration to come up with additional calendar options based on discussion at the Jan. 19 meeting, said Veronica Sopher, assistant superintendent of communications and government relations.
The changes to the approved calendar are also based on feedback received from the public.
“Board members were getting feedback from constituents via social media and phone calls,” Sopher said.
Four calendar drafts were presented at the Feb. 2 workshop, and after discussion and feedback from the public and school principals, the board approved Draft G.
The 2017-18 calendar will continue the weeklong break in November, and winter break will start Dec. 20, 2017, and end on Jan. 4, 2018.
The new calendar also makes Jan. 3, 2018, a staff development day. The Continuous Improvement Conference for staff, which had been a student holiday in February in the 2016-17 calendar, will be held Aug. 17-18, which is before school begins.
