The Leander Parks and Recreation Advisory Board toured the future site of the city's Lakewood Park June 13.

The undeveloped land for the park borders the Hazelwood, Cold Springs and Crystal Springs residential neighborhoods. The park currently has approximately 70 acres of dedicated property, plus approximately 36 acres of lake, said Mark Tummons, Leander Parks and Recreation Department director.

Crystal Springs developers are working with the Leander City Council to provide an additional 45 acres for the park, he said.

The initial phase of the park's construction will include creating a kayak and canoe launch, a fishing pier and trails.

The Parks and Recreation Department budgeted $565,000 for the first phase of development, which will be combined with a $400,000 grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, according to the meeting presentation.

Phase one is scheduled to be complete by the end of January 2019, Tummons said. Future phases will add a parking lot, a splash park, a skate park and a playground, he said.
