Start your week by keeping up with recent news from Cedar Park and Leander. 1. Leander City Council authorizes the annexation of more than 1,600 acres At its meeting Thursday night, Leander City Council approved the final reading of the annexation ordinance for 1,643.04 acres not under development agreements. Annexed landowners will begin paying property taxes to the city in January 2019, according to city spokesperson Michael Neu. Find out more here. 2. Cedar Park City Council votes against holding a drainage election in November Cedar Park City Council was exploring the possibility of reallocating a portion of sales tax revenue from one of its economic development boards to fund drainage improvements and street repairs. For the item to appear on the Nov. 7 ballot, the council needed to call for an election by Aug. 21. The City Council fell short on the number of  votes needed Thursday to call for the election. 3. Leander City Council establishes school speed zones for Stiles Middle School, Akin Elementary School Roads around Stiles Middle School and Akin Elementary School were added to the city’s school zone ordinance at the Leander City Council meeting Thursday night. Learn what this means for Leander drivers. 4. Leander ISD trustees call for $454 million bond election The Leander ISD board of trustees set a Nov. 7 bond election for a $454 million bond package during its Aug. 17 meeting.
