An up to 90-day burn ban was initiated by Williamson County Commissioners Court on Tuesday.

Judge Dan A. Gattis will have the opportunity to lift the ban when conditions improve, according to a statement from the county.

Under the ban, Williamson County residents must abstain from burning any combustible material outside of a flame and/or spark containing enclosure, the statement said. Residents are prohibited from burning items including yard waste like leaves or grass, or burning to clear land of vegetation like shrubs or stumps.

Ignoring the ban could result in a Class C Misdemeanor with up to a $500 fine, according to the county.
