The Cedar Park Planning and Zoning Commission voted to recommend approval of a revision to the city’s Code of Ordinances regarding roofing in neighborhood businesses on Jan. 16.

Amy Link, the city’s assistant director of development services, said the neighborhood business zoning is typically close to residential areas and so the building requirements are intended to be compatible with neighborhoods.

“[The amendment] would only allow gable or hipped roofs,” Link said.

Shed, mansard, gambrel and flat roofs will not be permitted in neighborhood business zoning if the amendment is approved by Cedar Park City Council, according to meeting documents.

Additionally, definitions for different roof types and building height were included in the code revisions.

The commission’s recommendation will go to Cedar Park City Council for approval.

The City Council voted to repeal and replace Cedar Park's zoning code in November after a recommendation from the planning and zoning commission earlier in the year.
