Cedar Park launched its new online water bill portal Aug. 14, which allows customers to use their "smart meters"  to see their hourly water usage detail online and set alerts for leaks, usage and billing thresholds and more. Through the secure online portal customers can create an account and see their up-to-date hourly water usage. It works in conjunction with residential customers’ new digital water meters, which the city finished deploying in June. Some features of the site allow customers to:
  • See up-to-date water use information
  • Detect leaks and water waste
  • Set customized budget and usage alerts
  • Track water usage against Cedar Park's tier rates
  • Set vacation alerts
Cedar Park to begin installing ‘smart’ water meter infrastructure in the fall“It will allow people to do detective work on their usage and help them save water," said Cedar Park Mayor Matt Powell. "For people to proactively see that information, it is just wonderful.” A total of 22,000 water meters were replaced with the digital water meters. Total deployment of the digital water meters and online portal cost under $5.5 million using the city’s Utility Fund savings. The city is in the process of making the data available to commercial customers through the online portal in the near future. The new digital water meters will allow the city to improve utility analytics, reduce water loss and theft, decrease labor costs from driving to read water meters, establish a baseline for distribution leak detection and alerts customers of potential water leaks, according to a release from city staff. Customers can create an account from a laptop, phone or tablet. No app is required to use the resource.
