The Leander Fire Department joined the drive this year, which ran July 11-25. The food donation, as well 55 fans that were collected, were given to the local food pantry at Hill Country Community Ministries, Hollaway said, adding that the community is "fantastic." "During the summer time, it’s difficult to do food drives," she said. "In the fall and the holiday season, we rock it between schools and churches. That lasts us until about March or April before we have to start having to purchase food through the Central Texas Food Bank." The 2016 drive collected more than 1,700 pounds of food and about 30 fans. Hollaway said the partnerships with local law enforcement and first responders help the nonprofit provide services to people throughout the area. Hill Country Community Ministries provides services to people in 10 ZIP Codes throughout Williamson and Travis counties. "This can and fan drive is instrumental in helping us get through the summer," she said.
