The city of Lakeway has called for a special election Nov. 3 that will allow residents to vote on a number of ballot initiatives.

Centered on amending language within Lakeway’s city charter, the election, which City Council voted on during its July 20 meeting, will see voters decide on several key initiatives, from granting the city power to modify its boundaries through the annexation of new territory to changing council members’ terms to two years.

The ballot initiatives, labeled A through G, will also allow voters to decide on term limits of six successive years for council members, whether the city manager should have to live in Lakeway and if the volunteer office of the city treasurer and other provisions in the city charter should be amended to remove references to the city treasurer.

Due to a discrepancy with state law, one ballot initiative that would have asked voters to choose whether Lakeway’s elections should be held in May or November was removed from the list.

Since no election was held in May in Lakeway, information from the city states its share of the $45,000 cost of the election is still available within its fiscal year 2019-20 budget.
