Redbud Trail will undergo closures Feb. 14-23 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday while the city of Austin completes studies of underground lines on the road as part of the Redbud Trail Bridge project, according to a press release from the city of West Lake Hills.

Work will be limited to the stretch of road between Stratford Drive and the bridge, and it will focus on each manhole on the street’s surface. Intermittent lane closures will happen throughout the study and flaggers will be on-site to assist traffic. The city urges drivers to be mindful of road signs and flaggers due to limited visibility on the stretch of road undergoing closures.

The Redbud Trail Bridge project will replace the existing bridge at Redbud Trail over Lady Bird Lake and is intended to handle current and increasing traffic with safer and more versatile options for travelers, including options for bicyclists and pedestrians, according to the city of Austin. Built in 1948, the design of the bridge was not built to handle the level of traffic it receives and does not have sufficient bicycle and pedestrian paths, the city of Austin’s website said.

The project is paid for through voter-approved bonds from 2012 and 2018. Construction is estimated by the city of Austin to take place between 2023-24.
