Longtime Bee Cave Mayor Caroline Murphy wrote City Manager Travis Askey an email Friday formalizing her resignation. She told attendees at the March 27 City Council meeting that gathering would be her last.

In the email Murphy, who has been the city's lead elected official since 2000, told Askey she would be stepping down immediately since she and her husband no longer reside within city limits of the city of Bee Cave.

"I have very much enjoyed working with you and all of the staff and will remain available if needed for matters pertaining to my time on the City Council,” Murphy wrote Askey.

Council Member Monty Parker is poised to take over for Murphy after no one else rose to contest his run for the open mayor's seat before the candidate filing deadline in February. Two council seats will be filled by two remaining candidates Jon Cobb and incumbent and Mayor Pro Tem Bill Goodwin. City Council Member Tom Matzen stepped aside Thursday evening prior to a candidate forum.
