The Texas Department of Transportation has suspended work on the majority of Austin-area road construction projects until after the Labor Day weekend.

TxDOT spokesperson Christopher Bishop said projects were suspended in order to reduce lane closures over the holiday weekend and to accommodate for evacuees from out of town who are temporarily in the metropolitan area due to Hurricane Harvey.

According Bishop, only two projects will continue as scheduled:

  • I-35: Drivers can expect multiple temporary southbound lane closures between Westinghouse Road and RM 1431 from 9 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday for street striping. Short duration ramp closures are expected as well.

  • Aquarena Springs Drive in San Marcos: All lanes are closed between Charles Austin Drive and Mill Street from 8 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday.
