The long-awaited Bee Creek Sports Complex has taken a step forward. Travis County commissioners voted March 2 in a consent motion to award the construction contract for Bee Creek Sports Complex, worth $16.98 million to Flintco LLC. Flintco was the sole applicant for the contract.

Bee Creek Sports Complex will include a synthetic, multiuse field; restrooms; meeting facilities for teams; playground areas; trails; and a maintenance building.

The project, located on 70 acres at 4440 Bee Creek Road in Lakeway, is funded by the 2017 Travis County bond program. Initially slated for completion by 2020, planning delays, including delays in securing a water service provider for the complex, pushed the projected date of play back to 2022.

While the project was stalled in 2020, Shiloh Newman, board president of the Lake Travis Youth Association, expressed his concerns about progress on the project to Community Impact Newspaper and emphasized the effort his organization had put in to lobby for the project since 2015.

“LTYA started five years ago in the [Travis] County Commissioners [Court] meetings on Tuesdays going in there and pleading our case to Judge [Sarah] Eckhardt to get us a park because we’re the only part of Travis County that does not have a county park or a sports complex,” Newman said.

In January 2020, Gerald Daugherty, then Travis County commissioner for Precinct 3, said the project should take around a year to complete once construction begins.
