Spicewood’s Pace Bend Park to conduct prescribed burns

In cooperation with local fire departments and natural resource agencies, Travis County Parks is conducting two controlled burns at Pace Bend Park, located at 2805 Pace Bend Road N. in Spicewood.

The burns will take place between between 10 a.m.-6 p.m. July 16-19, and each will last between four and six hours, according to a press release from Travis County Parks.

The burns are intended to reduce wildfire danger and improve ecosystem health by removing invading shrubs, consuming dead and downed vegetation, reducing the number of exotic species, and enhancing the health and diversity of the native plant community, the release states.

The park will remain open, but areas such as the west side coves and the Kate and Johnsons Cove will close for at least part of the week, and traffic delays may occur along the main entrance road to Pace Bend Park near the fee booth, as at least one of the burns may be conducted in that area, the release states.
