The St. Michael’s Catholic Academy LightSaders robotics team ranked first in Texas and seventh in the country at Austin Metro League’s FIRST Tech Challenge “Freight Frenzy” competitions Dec. 4.

FIRST Tech Challenge is a student program where students design, build, test and program autonomous and driver-operated robots that must perform a series of tasks. The objective of the “Freight Frenzy” mission was for teams to navigate their robots through a transportation system and traverse barriers to deliver essential items.

The LightSaders team was up against 62 other teams at the first competition and is currently ranked first in the Austin Metro League with a 77-point lead. On Jan. 22, the team will have its final chance to accumulate points for the championship qualifiers tournament.
