The latest report from the Austin Board of Realtors shows the number of homes sold last month in the Lake Travis-Westlake area is higher than that of any other October on record.

The Lake Travis-Westlake market, which covers the ZIP codes 78669, 78726, 78730, 78732, 78733, 78734, 78735, 78738 and 78746, had 236 homes sold in October, representing a year-over-year increase of 21.10%. Also of note: The median square footage for those homes was 2,991, and the median year those homes were built was 2004.

A key figure in the ABoR report for the area also shows the median price of all single family homes in October rose 6.8% from last October to $313,750.

The number of October sales for the Lake Travis-Westlake area are commensurate with those of the Austin area overall. According to the ABOR October report, home sales in Austin also reached the highest number of any October on record at 835.

"Austin can no longer sustain its current rate of growth. With an average of 100 people moving here every day, the demand for housing is growing much faster than the number of homes available," 2019 ABoR President Kevin P. Scanlan said. "Homes are hardest to find in the urban core where people can live closer to work and transit. Therefore, we need to plan more efficiently—not just in Austin's urban core but in transit corridors and activity centers as well."
