Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Lakeway is now offering 3D mammography services, improving access to advanced imaging technology for breast cancer detection.
“Adding 3D mammography affirms our commitment to our community by improving access to new technologies for area women and their families,” Philippe Bochaton, the president of Baylor Scott & White-Lakeway, said in an April news release. “We’re thrilled to provide advanced mammography right here in Lakeway so women don’t have to travel for this important screening.”
While a traditional mammogram captures a single image of the breast, the more advanced 3D mammography combines many images of the breast tissue to create a clearer and more accurate 3D image with the same radiation exposure as traditional mammography, the release said, adding women with dense breasts or who have a family history of breast cancer may benefit most.
“We are excited to bring the latest in advanced breast imaging to our patients in the Lakeway area,” said Michael Do, the medical director of breast imaging for the Baylor Scott & White-Austin/Round Rock Region. “3D mammography can improve invasive breast cancer detection, while reducing some callbacks.”
