A joint venture between two health care companies promises to rebrand the Vibra Rehabilitation Hospital in Lakeway by July.

Baylor Scott & White Health and Select Medical announced May 3 they would acquire Vibra as part of an expansion of an existing joint venture. The new entity will be operated under the name Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation-Lakeway and will have 36 beds to respond to what the new owners said is a growing need for such services in the community.

“Working together Baylor Scott & White and Select Medical will provide high quality of care and improved functional recovery outcomes for traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and stroke patients throughout North and Central Texas.” David Chernow, Select Medical president and CEO said in a release.

In 2014, Community Impact Newspaper reported the 58,000 square-foot facility on Medical Drive, originally called Lake Travis Specialty Hospital had been vacant for three years before being taken over by Vibra Healthcare in 2014. The new owners said they are looking forward to serving the Lakeway community.

“With our combined presence in the Austin area we will have a unique opportunity to leverage the skills and strengths of our two organizations to elevate the rehabilitation services we offer in the community,” Jay Fox, president, Baylor Scott & White–Austin/Round Rock region said.
