As a result of a new accreditation, all H-E-B stores that house a pharmacy department will now be able to deliver specialized clinical services to patients having more chronic and complex diseases including auto-immune, Hepatitis C, multiple sclerosis and oncological diseases, spokeswoman Julie Bedingfield stated in a news release. The change will allow H-E-B pharmacies to dispense medications—injectable, intravenous or oral—in a patient's home, physician’s office or another clinic, the release states.  The pharmacy can also provide disease-specific clinical monitoring to its customers as well as patient compliance and adherence programs, according to the company. The San Antonio-based grocery store company was awarded the Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation by nonprofit organizations Utilization Review Accreditation Commission, or URAC, and the Accreditation Commission for Health Care, or ACHC. “Accreditation is an important milestone in our mission to continuously innovate H-E-B Pharmacy services and better serve our patients when they need us the most,” said Craig Norman, H-E-B Pharmacy senior vice president in the release. “From health and wellness programs to expanded pharmacy offerings, H-E-B remains dedicated to serving the diverse needs of our customers.” The pharmacies will continue to provide home delivery and in-store pickup services. Central Market stores that are owned by H-E-B will not be affected because they do not include in-store pharmacy services. H-E-B has more than 380 stores in Texas and Mexico.
