Officials in Rollingwood have announced that Google Fiber will soon install a fiber network in the city, providing a new high-speed internet service option for local businesses and homes.

The overview

An agreement was signed last year between the city and Google Fiber to allow the business to construct the network in the city, City Secretary Makayla Rodriguez said.

“This is a great move for our community. It shows that the City Council has the city’s best interest in mind by bringing new providers in to expand options and ensure competitive pricing for our residents,” Rollingwood Mayor Gavin Massingill stated in a news release. “We look forward to the installation of Google Fiber in Rollingwood.”

The details

Construction of the network began in mid-April and will likely last until the end of August, according to a news release from Google Fiber.

The network will be installed in city right of way throughout Rollingwood, connecting homes and businesses in the city to Google Fiber’s multi-gigabit speeds, according to the news release.

What else?

Other areas in the Lake Travis-Westlake region have also signed agreements with Google Fiber recently, including the city of Bee Cave, which announced its collaboration with Google Fiber in January.
