Officials from Lake Travis Fire Rescue will be joined by Bee Cave Mayor Kara King on Facebook Live to discuss fire safety and wildfire prevention on March 12 at 6 p.m.
The overview
The virtual town hall will include insights from LTFR Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Dustin Dunn and LTFR Fire Chief Robert Abbott. Attendees are welcome to ask questions during the meeting, but are also invited to submit their questions in advance through an online portal.
LTFR will review home hardening strategies such as replacing combustible wood mulch with rocks, and discuss how residents can create defensible spaces around their home, Bee Cave Director of Communications Crystal Cotti said. Additionally, King and Abbott will explain how residents can manage vegetation around their homes to ensure community safety.
Some context
Currently, the Lake Travis region is facing a moderate risk of fire danger, Abbott said at a recent LTFR town hall meeting.
LTFR provides a variety of fire safety resources to residents of the Lake Travis region, including wildfire home risk assessments, an emergency alert system called Warn Central Texas, and the Ready, Set, Go! program, which aims to educate residents on how to defend their homes against fire through educational tools and guides, according to the department’s website.
What else?
LTFR recently held a town hall with Travis County Commissioner Ann Howard to address wildfire risk in Precinct 3. Topics discussed included national fire danger rankings, proposed tax incentives for residential fire mitigation efforts and basic fire prevention strategies.
