In accordance with a new city ordinance, heavy trucks will now be prohibited on seven roads throughout Lakeway, with violations subject to fines of up to $500.

A list of roads on which heavy trucks are now prohibited includes:
  • Lakeway Boulevard, between Lohman’s Crossing and RM 620
  • Lohmans Crossing Road, between RM620 and Lakeway Boulevard
  • Lohmans Spur, between RM 620 and Lohmans Crossing Road
  • Serene Hills Drive
  • Flint Rock Road
  • Bee Creek Road, within city of Lakeway Jurisdiction
  • Highlands Boulevard
Work on the new ordinance began in December, following community feedback regarding the suitability of heavy traffic on streets like Flint Rock Road and Serene Hills Drive, and staff were directed to look into modifying the city’s heavy vehicles ordinance, according to city documents.

A list of roads on which heavy vehicles would be prohibited was produced by staff, and following feedback from City Council, Flint Rock Road and Serene Hills Drive were later added.

The ordinance was passed by City Council on Feb. 3, according to city documents.


The details

A heavy truck is defined as any vehicle with two rear axles which is designed to transport property and which exceeds a weight of 15,000 pounds, according to the ordinance.

A violation of the ordinance is punishable by a fine of up to $500 per offense.

The ordinance does not apply to emergency vehicles or heavy trucks used for street improvements or other utility repair or maintenance work. Government vehicles performing municipal services, such as school buses, are also exempt.

The city will install signs along these seven roads to provide notice to drivers of new restrictions, and the Lakeway Police Department will dedicate additional time and resources to enforce the new ordinance, according to city documents.
