The City of West Lake Hills is making progress on projects laid out in the voter-approved Proposition B—a city initiative to improve local roads and drainage systems.
The overview
Proposition B was approved by West Lake Hills voters in 2021, providing $11.8 million in funding for road repairs and drainage improvements. Roads marked for improvement include Eanes School Road and Camp Craft Road, Redbud Trail, Westlake Drive, Laurel Valley Road, and Yaupon Road.
As of the city’s Jan. 22 council meeting, paving has been completed on Redbud Trail, Westlake Drive, Yaupon Road, and Laurel Valley Road, Building and Development Services director Jennifer Bills said. The addition of striping and directional markings on these roads is also partially completed, though some more work is needed.
Retaining wall and culvert work on Eanes School Road will continue, and after additional work is completed, the road should open by the end of February, Bills said.
As for Camp Craft, pre-closure work has begun, including adding additional potholing and utility relocations. Periodic one-lane closures will take place until Feb. 1, when the road will be entirely closed off for repairs, Bills said.
What residents should know
An open house was held Jan. 9 in which the city shared information about Camp Craft’s closure with residents. Concerns brought forward by attendees included traffic flow, pedestrian access and access to properties near the road, Bills said.
Addressing those concerns, Bills said that the road would be closed off to both vehicles and pedestrians for safety reasons, and that answers to other questions could be found in a Q&A on the city’s website.
What’s next?
Camp Craft is slated to open again no later than July 31, and Eanes School Road will likely open by the end of February, Bills said.
Updates on each road’s progress can be found on the city’s Proposition B webpage.
