Many taxing entities in the Lake Travis-Westlake area have proposed higher tax rates for the upcoming year, which could result in high tax bills depending on a homeowner’s place of residence.

The following information outlines the increase in cost for a home with a taxable value of $600,000 or $1 million between fiscal year 2023-2024 and FY 2024-25 tax rates for a given taxing entity. Although rates were not increased for certain taxing bodies, homeowners could still see total cost increases as home values in the area rise.

Travis County

The county raised both its own tax rate and the rate for Central Health, the county's hospital district.


Cities


Lakeway and Rollingwood both raised tax rates for FY 2024-25 resulting in a 10.97% increase for Lakeway residents and a 7.36% increase for Rollingwood residents.


School districts

School districts across the area decreased tax rates in line with the statewide compression requirements.


Emergency service districts


Some emergency service districts increased tax rates for the upcoming year, including ESD No. 3 in the Westlake area, which increased 32.5%. A map of Travis County ESDs is available here.


Municipal utility districts

There are over 30 municipal utility and water control improvement districts within the Lake Travis-Westlake area. While the majority did decrease or maintain tax rates, three did increase rates for the upcoming year.
