The city of Lakeway plans to remodel its decades-old Justice Center at 104 Cross Creek, where the Municipal Court is housed.

The background

Originally built in the early '80s to serve as the former City Hall, the building has seen several renovations over the years.

In 2019, the Lakeway Police Department moved out of the Justice Center and into a new facility due to a lack of adequate space.

Plans to update the court and its building facilities were set in motion in April 2023.

The cost

At a Sept. 16 meeting, City Council approved an additional $206,353 for the renovation plans, bringing the total budgeted project cost to $603,014.

This cost increase comes after council members visited the site and determined more updates were needed than originally planned, according to a staff report.

The details

According to city documents, renovations will include the following:
  • Waterproofing the exterior of the building to prevent leaks
  • Complete renovation of bathrooms
  • Replacement of flooring, light fixtures, ceiling tiles and baseboards in the courtroom and other areas
  • Replacement of all exit signs
  • Installation of a staircase off the courtroom
  • Installation of a new window on the first floor for an office
  • Reconfiguration of the court clerk area to provide more space and new fixtures for the clerks
What's next

Work on the remodeling began within the past year and no completion date is set, according to a city spokesperson.
