A portion of Harbor View Road in West Lake Hills will close for construction the week of May 13 and remain closed for through traffic until late June.

The overview

Construction will involve the installation of guard rails and a retaining wall for both erosion prevention and safety purposes, said Jennifer Bills, the city's Director of Building and Development Services.

Some context

The roughly $148,000 road project is apart of the voter-approved 2021 street maintenance plan which is funded through the city’s street maintenance sales tax, Bills said.

The 0.5% tax is applied to all taxable purchases made in the city, according to the city’s website.

In February, the city awarded a construction contract to Myers Concrete Construction for $359,535.

Originally, the bid included both the Harbor View Road project and culvert improvements on Roadrunner Road. However, at an April 24 City Council meeting, the contract was amended to remove and postpone the Roadrunner Road project.

Bills said the city is working with engineers to redesign the Roadrunner Road project so the dead-ended street can remain open during construction. An appropriate amount of funds from the original contract will still be dedicated to the project in the future.

Both the postponed Roadrunner Road project and Harbor View Road improvement area are mapped below.
