At an April 15 Lakeway City Council meeting, officials gave cost and progress updates on the 2022 transportation bond projects.

The rundown

Most notably, officials authorized a $3 million contract to begin crosswalk and road overlay improvements for Lakeway Drive, Lohmans Crossing Road and Lakeway Boulevard as well sidewalk additions to Dave Drive.

The construction bid represents a $4 million shortfall from the initial predicted cost of the project, which could go to other transportation projects in the future, Assistant City Manager Ashby Grundman said during the meeting.

What's next

Other bond projects in progress include the following:
  • RM 620 lane widening: acquired in September; unknown timeline
  • Culvert drainage improvements: under construction; to be completed in September
  • Lohmans Crossing and Main Street traffic light addition: unknown timeline
  • Flint Rock Road and Wild Cherry traffic light addition: expected to begin construction in six months
  • Main Street bridge and Birrell Street bridge additions: expected to begin construction in 18 months

Director of Public Works Dale DeLong said the construction of the traffic lights will likely require temporary single-lane road closures.

"Out intent was to have this entire project done before the school started again, but the monkey wrench is that there is no power at that site," City Manager Joseph Molis said.

Molis said the city would lobby Austin Energy to accelerate the construction process.
