West Lake Hills City Council denied tree removal for the relocation of Spanish Immersion School, a day care and preschool, at a Feb. 14 meeting.

The gist

Clear Terra Group LLC requested to move the Spanish Immersion School from its current location at 3636 Bee Cave Road to 3421 Bee Cave Road, West Lake Hills, according to city documents.

Under the preliminary plan for the project, the applicant requested six variances for the project be approved—five for the Board of Adjustment and one for City Council, regarding the removal of three trees that are 14 inches or greater in diameter, according to city documents.

City Council’s decision to deny the variance came after a public comment by Christy Black, owner of Primose School of West Lake Hills, with whom council members said they agreed.

Primose School of West Lake Hills, located at 3423 Bee Cave Road, Ste. A, would neighbor the Spanish Immersion School if they were to relocate.

With a student enrollment of up to 195 and 25 staff members, the Spanish Immersion School relocation could cause even more traffic congestion and issues in the area, Black said.

Black said traffic is already an issue for Primrose School due to current construction projects.

Quote of note

“It’s just the congestion that really concerns me, and having to navigate angry parents when nothing has changed for us,” Black said.
